The option is greyed out suddenly. I have no modem
connection in Network connections (I have had an msn
account for a year). I cannot recreate it either as the
option in create a new connection is grey.

I have tried a system restore and got my msn connection
back then I came back to the computer today and it's gone
again. I have tried KB article 320558 and that does not
restore it. I have checked this computer against my other
computers and they services running don't seem to be
missing anything.

This is Windows XP Pro with SP1 installed and until last
week was current on updates. This machine had the MS
Firewall running when I couyld connect and is a gateway
for 2 other computers.

Any suggestions besides format and reinstall ??? Thanks
in advance !

Does your modem show up properly in device manager?

The modem is fine. I just restored the system to July 1,
2004 and I have the connection again. It appears to be
related to a critical update from MSN between July 1 and
today. I have McAfee running and updated it and have run
checks for viruses and spyware and am drawing a blank.

Thanks though.
