Unable to copy to CD

T

Tony Cooper

Using XP on a PC with a Digital Research 52x24x52 internal CD-RW drive
as (E:)

I can't copy files (image files most in .jpg format) to a CD. Using
the Microsoft copy to disk, I get the message "Cannot complete the CD
writing wizard"

Here's what I've done so far:

Bought a new CD-RW drive in August because of this problem.

Tried several brands of CD-Rs and CD-RWs.

Once in a while, I'll manage to copy over one or two files. Most of
the time: nothing.

Now, the computer has stopped recognizing the CV-DVD drive (D:) It
recognizes the CD-RW drive (E:), and will open files transferred to
disk on that drive. Disks recorded before this problem started work
just fine as far as opening files.

Since the new drive is doing exactly what the old drive did, and the
new drive recognizes previously recorded files, I assume the problem
is in software and not in the drive itself. Somewhere, I suspect, I
have a conflict.

The CD-RW drive came with NDI CD-Maker 2000 Plus software. No success
using that, either. Using that, the files appear to write, but
nothing ends up on the CD. Again, I've changed CD styles and brands.

Try using Nero or Roxio to burn your disks.

Roxio makes the program that Microsoft uses to copy to disk. It's
Roxio's program that isn't working now. I'd have to buy Nero, and it
seems likely that if two programs that usually work for other people
(Roxio and CD-Maker) aren't working for me now, that just buying
another one isn't going to solve the problem.
