Unable to copy some files during setup - XP Pro

Hello,
While trying to perform a clean install on a brand new
and already formatted/partitioned hard drive, It keeps
telling me that certain files (cyclad-z.inf, cyclom-
y.inf, Headsp~1.wmz, Minipl~1.wmz, utopia~1.wav, and sv-
262e1.png) were unable to be copied to the the hard
disk. I retry, and same thing. I end up skipping the
file, then, after reboot and windows xp pro is continuing
its setup, I get a Fatal Error tell me that "one of the
components windows needs to continue setup could not be
installed", Win32 lasterror is 14001" ????? Can I
manually copy these files to the hard disk? Is my copy of
XP Pro bad? Any insight into this would be greatly
appreciated! Thanks! Eric

I would start by cleaning the CD with a true CD cleaner.
If your CD is getting that far, it must be able to read the CD.
If cleaning doesn't do it, it may very well be a bad copy of XP.
If that's the case, and you purchased it retail, get it replaced by the
store or vendor.
Actually, if you can locate an XP CD of the same type you're trying to
install (retail or OEM), you can use that CD and your license key. What
you're paying Microsoft for is the license key number. They just throw in
the CD so you can actually install it. :)

I have seen this in the past on istalls I do every day. In
my situation it was do to bad RAM. Open your case on your
comp. if you have more than one stick of ram try removing
one, and running setup again. If you get the same error
message, remove the remaining Ram, and replace it with the
one you fisrt tool out. ren setup again, and should not
have any problems.
If you only have one stick of ram installed see if you
can borrow one, or buy new memmory.
