Unable to connect to newsgroups

On a client running win2k, accessed newsgroups via OE6.0,
About 4 weeks ago DNS was changed and I can no longer
access any newsgroups via my client. Settings for
microsoft newsgroups are correct (msnews.microsoft.com), I
can access the internet and smtp & pop3 servers however,
no newsgroups. Any thoughts?

Try 207.46.248.16 in lei of news.microsoft.com

If you ping msnews.microsoft.com, do you get an IP address returned?
Can you telnet to msnews.microsoft.com on port 119?
Is port 119 closed outbound on your firewall/router?

Lan,
Can you ping news.microsoft.com or 207.46.248.16 ? Just curios as it seems
they may have disabled the echo. I can telnet to either name or IP address
though.

Firewall setting was set to high on router! Thanks again

I'm pretty sure they've had ICMP blocked forever....at least, I'd hope so.
But I can telnet in, no problem ;-)
