Unable to connect to a server using the UNC path through VPN

Any idea why when connected via Broad Band and VPN, I cannot connect to our
company server using the UNC path. any attemt to connect using
"\\servername\share" returns "no RPC servers available to service the logon
request"
I have addded the server IP address to the hosts file and can ping the
server by ip address and server name.
Any clues?

Try using th IP address as in \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\share to see if that works
which if it does will show that problem is name resolution. If that works
try configuring the lmhosts file to have the server/IP mapping to see if it
helps. --- Steve
