Unable to connect from 1 Vista PC to another Vista PC on home netw

Hi,
I have been trying everything possible, but still can’t get my 2 PC's
running Vista Ultimate to share files and the printer. One PC is a Dell
Dimension 8300 with a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card and an Intel
PRO/100VE card as well. Right now I have the ethernet connected to the
Broadcom from the router. My other PC is a Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop which
connects to the internet wirelessly via an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Card. I
am using a Belkin F5D8231-4 ver 1001 (with the most up to date
firmware)router connected to a Siemens Speedstream 4100 Ethernet ADSL modem.
I can access the internet fine from both PC’s.
I have the firewall disabled on the router, no firewall running on the PC’s.
I am using AVG Antivirus. Under the Network and Sharing Center I have
everything turned on, except for password protection sharing. When I click
on ‘view full map’ on both PC’s, I am able to see both PC’s. The Desktop is
shown connected to a switch then to the network, while the Laptop is
connected directly to the network. The network is then shown connected to
the internet. When running the net view \\Laptop & netview \\192.168.2.3
from the desktop, and net view \\Desktop & net view \\192.168.2.4 from the
Laptop I get the System 53 has occurred message. I also can’t connect the
laptop to the Printer (which is shared) connected to the desktop
Both PC’s are in the ‘WORKGROUP’ workgroup and set to Private Network. I
have set shared folders on both PC’s, but I can not see the either PC’s
folders when using the other. When I click on ‘computer’ in vista then
expand the plus sign next to network on the left hand side, all I see is the
computer I am currently on.
Another odd thing is that I can not change back from ‘This computer is part
of a business network’ I use it to connect to other computers at work’ to
‘This is a home computer; it’s not part of a business network’ on either
computer.
I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance that anyone can offer. This
is driving me insane. Thanks in advance!

Firewall is disabled on the router, and I have no firewall program running.

If they are in the subnet with correct IP addresses, you should be able to ping. I would check any security software running.

Firewall is disabled on the router, and I have no firewall program running.

I get a timeout (100% loss) when pinging each PC from the other.

Assuming you don't have firewall enabled, can you ping each other?

Hi,
I have been trying everything possible, but still can’t get my 2 PC's
running Vista Ultimate to share files and the printer.
