Unable to boot up XP

Following a disasterous update of XP SP2 that crashed part way through I have
been unable to boot up my PC. I get a message at some point in the boot up
process "Windows unable to start Crytographic Services". Having explored this
it seems as though the Cryptographic Services is dependant on "DCOM Server
Process Launcher" and "Remote Procedure Call (RCP)" starting. Looking in
Admin Tools and Services bothe the DCOM and RCP state starting. I am unable
to see any restore to previous dates in both normal and safety mode and a lot
of my admin priviledges aren't now available in normal and safety mode. Can
anyone shed light on this and help me get out of this mess before I reload
the original discs and loose everything on the hard drive?
