Unable to attach PDF's that I could yesterday

I have been sending out hundreds of e-mails with 5 PDF
files attached, when I tried to send the exact same e-
mails yesterday, it will not allow me to insert these
same 5 files. the error says "Can't creat file: Abc.pdf.
Right click the folder you want to create the file in,
and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check
your permissions for the folder." I have checked files
properties and for some reason it will not let me change
the file from 'read only'. It is checked off as read
only, and I uncheck it, hit OK, and when I reopen it, it
says 'read only' again. The .pdf file I moved to my
desktop, does NOT say read only. I have repaired Outlook
to no avail, ran Virus Scan to no avail. I have removed 1
of the files to my desktop and it still will not attach,
producing the same error. All other files will attach,
including other .pdf files. I have now put all these .pdf
files into the recycle bin, but it will not allow me to
remove the folder from my desktop, saying that it is
being used by another person or program. There are no
other programs running, this posting being the only
window open, and my boss and I are the only ones with
permissions on my PC and he is not logged into my PC.
