Unable to add printer

For some reason the print driver for a Minota-QMS was
deleted. When I try to add printer, I get a message box
saying "Operation could not be completed." I do have the
driver downloaded on my hard drive.

Are you logged on as an Administrator?

Is the print spooler running?

Did you try:

Start, Run (type) sfc /scannow (enter)

When do you get the error message - when you try to start the Add Printer
Wizard, or when you click Finish on the Add Printer Wizard ? If the former,
try Cori's suggestion with sfc /scannow.

If the latter, does it work if you add other drivers ? If not, go to the
%windir%\inf directory (it's hidden and hence doesn't show up by default in
an explorer window) and delete every *.pnf file as well as the file
infcache.1, they're cached versions of the real files and will get recreated
if they're not found - but if they're corrupted, as they seem to get at
times (would loooove to get my hands on one of those corrupted files as I
still couldn't lay hands on one to figure out how it got into that state),
things stop working.
