Unable to activate address book

I just moved and am changing from Outlook Express to Microsoft Outlook
(2003). I put in all my friend's email addresses under contacts, but they
don't appear in a list when I want to send an email. I have tried to select
address book & put them all in there, but it won't let me.....Can anyone help
me?
