When I select "my computer" in the start menu all I get is a serching torch
and I cannot access my files or directories. I think the relavant software
has been altered/deleted by spyware

Hi,

Start/run msconfig, on the services tab uncheck (disable) Windows Image
Acquistion. Click apply/ok and reboot, does this resolve it?
