- What AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are you currently running?
- What specific operating system at what service pack level?

Download, install, run, update and perform a full scan (separately) with the
following two applications (freeware versions are the ones to use for this):

SuperAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/

MalwareBytes
http://www.malwarebytes.com/

After performing a full scan with one and then the other and removing
whatever they both find completely, you may uninstall these products,
if you wish.

Download, install and update one of the following ways:

- Download on another computer, that isn't infected. Save to a thumb
drive, then install on the infected machine.

- Try the same from "Safe Mode with Networking" on the infected machine.

Malwarebytes© Corporation

Chances are that you're seeing the affects of a hijackware infection (cf.
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=37919).

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run additional checks for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

I have tried running Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot. They
did not work. Thanks for your help though. Hijack this is a little
too much for me.

Then you are almost certainly infected with malware.

What anti-virus program, anti-spyware programs, and firewall do you
run? Are they kept up to date?

Then you may wish to give a bit more information on your problem.

For example...

- What AntiVirus application are you currently running?
- What specific operating system at what service pack level?
- Web browser(s) you have available to use...
- Do they all exhibit the same issue?
- If the machine has multiple accounts - do all accounts act in the same
manner?
- What type of Internet connection do you have?

HiJack This is actually simpler than any of the other options -- you
don't actually have to decide what to delete or not delete, you just
download, install, run, copy the log, and post the log to one of the
forums mentioned in PA Bear's post (see below).

Didn't you hear? Microsoft just experienced a bad quarter so had to

Once the economy starts to recover they may be able to rehire their

You fool no one, troll. You're pitiful.

Did I mention MBAM, STUPIDAntiSpyware or Spybot? No.

I'm running Win XP Pro SP1, using the Windows firewall, and use Avira
antivirus on a regular basis. All accounts have the same thing going
on. Internet connection is DSL. Thanks

WinXP SP1 hasn't been supported since October 2006.

You've got a VERY bad hijackware infection, primarily because the machine
has been patch in well over eight (8) years. You cannot use Windows Update
unless WinXP SP2 or SP3 is installed so you can't get the machine fully
patched in its current state.

PS: Most antivirus applications will not work properly unless WinXP SP2 or
SP3 is installed.

The only & most efficient way to resolve your problem is to format &
reinstall Windows. After doing so, you'll have the equivalent of a "new
computer" so see...
