Unable to access internet through IE since joining AOL.

I am unable to access virtually all internet sites through IE since I signed
up with AOL.
I can access my home page (google) through IE but when I try to search
anything or put a different web address in, the progress bar reaches about
halfway (eventually) but then stops and eventually I get a "page acnnot be
displayed" error.
I can access all sites through my AOL browser (which I hate using!).
This also affects other programs such as my MSN Messenger & Microsoft media
player which won't connect to the internet.
I used to be with Tiscali, and I had no problems with the same setup.
If it helps- I am running IE6 on XP with sp2, I have a Macafee firewall
(which seems to be setup fine), and I'm using AOL broadband on a wireless
network.
I have tried some of the suggestions from other posts which describe similar
problems with no luck.
It's driving me crazy! Please Help!
Many thanks!

Hi Sambo :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

First, disable the XP firewall if you have not already done so. If you are
using the McAfee firewall you don't need the one in XP.

If still no joy.......

Hi
I just fixed the same problem!
It was mcafee virus scan preventing webs from loading. You need to diable
it from starting using msconfig and restarting or delete it comepletely.
Hitting disable fromthe task bar is not enough.
