Every time I try to hit the inter options button; I get
the pop up saying sorry there was a problem & internet
explorer must close - then it shuts the window down. Any
help would be great; not sure how to delete temp. files &
cookies if I can't even get to the options button,
thanks.

Hi

Click Start > Control Panel > Internet Options

Hope this helps

Which OS? Try checking the properties of those two modules
and confirm them with the DLL Help Database or the MSKB
(e.g. for hotfix information.)

FWIW in XP you could also try:

regsvr32 /i /n inetcpl.cpl
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Note: only the first command would be valid under NT4.

You could also try running that the command the error message
showed you in case doing it that way gives you any further information.
