Unable to access folders

I

Information

We have slaved a drive from a dead laptop into our desktop, and are unable
to access our old folder in Documents and Settings. Both systems are
running XP Home.

I know access can be obtained, but I am forgetting the specific steps. We
are logged in on the Desktop as an administrator, so I have access to the
Security settings on the drive.

Can someone please point me to the rights steps to take over this folder
again, so we can copy our data to the new system?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

What happens when you try to access the old folder?

Since you're running Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in Safe Mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Once you have access to the Security tab you can take ownership
of the files and give your account Full Control permissions.
Take a look at these articles for more info:

Good luck
