Unable to access e-mail/usenet after network upgrade (OE 6)

Hi all, I am completely baffled and hoping that someone out there has seen
this before:

Since moving into my house I have had the following setup:
DSL Modem running into a Linksys 1 port DSL router running into a dlink 10Mb
hub which then splits one connection into one room wall jack that has a
single PC plugged into it and another running from the dlink hub into a room
with a wall jack that then has a netgear 10/100 hub with 2 PCs plugged into
it. Everything has run pretty well with this setup.

This weekend I upgraded things as follows:
Ran 2 more cables from the closet where the dlink hub is into 2 more rooms
with new wall jacks. I then removed the dlink hub and replaced it with a
netgear 10/100 switch. I am now able to surf the web and play online games
etc, but can't check e-mail or access usenet from any room in the house.
Netgear support was no help, so today I returned the netgear switch and
replaced it with a Linksys 10/100 switch. Same thing, the web works great,
but no mail or news from any room. Linksys support was no more help than
Netgears. So, I just said ta' heck with it and bought a netgear 10/100 hub,
thinking that something on my network just didn't like switches. Well, this
new hub is doing the same thing, web and games work, but no e-mail or news.

So I have plugged the dlink 10Mb hub back in and will work from it where
everything works until I can figure this out. I really need the 100Mb
capability though since I am starting to really get into video editing and
need the ability to copy huge files across the network in a reasonable
amount of time.

So, anyone seen such a thing and or have any suggestions?

It is the BEFSR11 router. I did follow the step in the linksys KB regarding
the MTU settings and they were correct. I figure if they were wrong, then it
would not work through the 10Mb hub as well, but it does.

I didn't try the Registry changes in the MS KB article you linked. Again
though, should this matter if e-mail and news work with the 10Mb hub, but
not with the other devices as described in my original message?

Hi all,

Just wanted to pass along the solution for my problem. It turns out that my
DSL Modem (Fujitsu Speedport) did not like being plugged into a 100Mb
network. So I configured things as follows:

The DSL Modem goes to the Linksys Router WAN Port. The LAN Port of the
router goes to the 10Mb hub which the DSL modem does not have a problem
with. Another connection goes from the 10Mb hub into the 10/100 Linksys
Switch. Then from the Switch to 4 rooms one of which has a 10/100 Netgear
hub connecting 2 more PCs.

With this configuration, everything on the internal network works at 100Mb
while everything going to the internet works at 10Mb which is perfect since
y'all know DSL can't even come close to using that bandwidth.
