UMAX Vistascan install problem in WinXP?

B

BobK

Hello Everyone,

I have an older UMAX Vistascan 1220U USB Scanner that ran fine on Win98 but
I upgraded to WinXP Pro.

I purchased the WinXP update from UMAX for the 1220U and installed the
software / driver.

When I go to TEST the scanner, I continue to get a Scanner Access Fail /
Status: Link Fail. It suggests several things having to do with connections
and interface cards.

I suppose WinXP can not find the scanner. Device Manager shows all is well
but does show Unknown Device for the scanner USB connection. I have rebooted
several times.

Does anyone know what I might try to get this thing working?

Thanks a lot,

Bob

Just to add to the problem, I tried Start/Accessories/Scanners and Cameras.
My model is not in the wizard and when I tell it to go to the cdrom to get
the information it says that my hardware is not detected. And this is with
the UMAX cdrom.

In fact, the wizard only has one UMAX product listed and it automatically
selects it when you say you have the driver.

Any ideas?

Hi Bob, no consolation, I know, but I failed to get it to work too after I
had done a re-install of XP Pro - though it had worked before. I have given
up and just use the built in XP scanner programme though it gives a red
caste to images.

hope you have better luck,

John

Can you be more specific as to what you purchased? I do not remember
purchasing anything. I did download a free upgrade. "vista32.exe Vista Scan
3.5.1" (From UK)

I must have had some problems as the scanner is marked #3.

Check to see if the driver version numbers match mine.

Hi I have a Umax 3450 USB scanner and had the same problem regarding
it not wanting to run under Windows XP. I believe that I found the
solution on the Umax site. There was some procedure to follow.
Sounded rather arcane and a nuisance, but was not as bad as it sounded
and did work. My scans were much better and easier than using the
Windows XP basic scan function. Hope this helps. Sorry I do not
remember more.

Another tip. I have gotten perfect scan function actions resulting in
blank pages. After reinstalls etc. it turned out the solution was
simply unplugging the scanner for 10 seconds or so. Then replugging.
I did not even have to reboot, Do this at your own risk, worked fine
for me, might cause a problem for you, have no idea!

By the way, if anyone who is reading this knows, do newer scanners
take advantage of USB2 to increase speed? Does my Umax 3450 take
advantage of USB2?
