Ultimate Upgrade and bitlocker

I have just ordered the upgrade version and after reading some of the
comments on here about not being able to load onto a new system without
installing XP first, I am wondering how the Bitlocker installation is done.

I understand that with the full retail version, that the first thing to do
is create a blitlocker partition, then a system partition for Vista. Well
thats seems fine, but if you have to have XP on first, how do you go about
repartitioning the drives after the Vista install?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I cant find anything relating to
bitlocker in upgrade mode.

Thanks for any info you can offer.

What would prevent you from setting up your partitions before the
installation process and just reserving one for Bitlocker? Maybe I'm not
understanding the problem.

One thing you could do is just use the one partition and install same way as
usual. When you get to installing Vista you gain access to the shrink command
in command prompt or within Vista that allows you to reduce the non
fragmented areas of your partition to make another (New to Vista!). This
might help you for setting up a Bitlocker partition after you've installed.

The bit that seems to stop me setting up the partitions is that the
partitions are already in place and there is no spare space on the disks. I
had made a (now apparently incorrect) assumption that I would be able to do a
fresh install and configure the partitions prior to installing the OS.
However, if I can only run the install from within XP, I don't see how I can
possibly repartition the disks without having to reinstall XP from scratch -
and that cant be right, surely?

The URL provided about bitlocker tell me whole heaps about how it works, and
all the other necessary info about how to use it, but it doesnt offer the
slightest inkling how to implement it on a system with a current OS in place.

Any ideas?

The Microsoft link is from May 16, 2006. I would think Microsoft should
update the information based on the final release and the different editions.
For instance I am planning on buying a new laptop, but the manufacturer does
not offer an Ultimate option (only Business). What do I have to do to
upgrade to Ultimate and then repartion and install BitLocker (especially if I
do not have the install disks as many manufacturers do not include them). Is
this a complicated and time consuming process?
