Ubuntu Tells MS to Put Up or Shut Up

Big deal so you have a Linux distro that does not want to help the market by
enabling it to interoperate with the platform on over 90% of the worlds PCs
and a huge proportion of the worlds servers; unlike Novell, Xandros and
Linspire who all signed patent agreements
So they can sit there not wanting to open discussions with Microsoft and can
just wait for the inevitable patent infringement suite.
Frankly a pretty poor and petty display from a Linux distro (and more
accurately its parent sponsor) who appear to be unwilling to actually help
the consumer by working together to make the IT world a better and more
interoperable place for all.

Something that Ubuntu is changing big time.

Most servers are Linux. Oops.

So they could get millions of dollars of MS money. Cop out and selling
out come to mind.

Does the "suite" come with a jacuzzi? Or did MS patent that too?

Do you really believe this FUD? MS says Linux is violating 235 patents
but won't reveal what patents they're talking about. They should put up
or shut up and so should you.

It's great news unless you want everything on your computer to be MS.
How spiteful yet sad.

No spite involved at all nor am I sad.

The sad person is you who can only insult people.

My Dear Net Nanny,

It says vista.general on the door. Viable alternatives to Vista is ON TOPIC.

Live with it.

I guess you have nothing better to do

Viable alternatives? You're trying to pass off a toy os as a real
alternative to Vista? Don't make me laugh!
You're joking of course?
Also "Viable alternatives to Vista is ON TOPIC' is something you made up
to suit your own sicko agenda.
And because this ng is not moderated, scumbags linux loser trolls like
you get by with doing basically whatever you want to do.
Try doing that over at your open sores church-trash dot.
You're pathetic!

You tell 'em Frank. Good Job !

That is good news in the sense that one company is refusing to be bullied
into paying MS for so-called patent infringements.

MS has of yet to disclose the individual patents. Therefore, Canonical has
no obligation to make any agreement with them about any of these 'vapor'
(as of right now) patents. You would think a large corporation would be
happy to provide the details of each and every patent and an explanation of
why they believe each has been infringed on.

That is what would be required to go through any legal proceedings is it
not ?

You just have no idea of the big picture do you?
How on earth in your twisted brain can this be good for anyone?

Bullied into paying for infringing on patents?...that's real convoluted
thinking. That implies the alleged infringer(s) have the right to infringe.
I don't think so.
MS has of yet to disclose the individual patents.

So a couple of the opens sores distros actually think MS is bluffing to
make them pay patent royalty monies!
That kind of logic (if you can even call that logic) coming from a
company is rather scary.
Who's the wacko in charge of that deal?

Oh I'm quite sure these distro companies are well aware of what and how
they're infringing on MS patents. We (the general public) don't really
know what's been going on behind closed doors and you can bet your last
dollar MS is not bluffing on these matters. MS pays billions of $'s
every year in patents use royalties so they know which way the winds
blowing.
That is what would be required to go through any legal proceedings is it

Yep!
That's the deal.
Frank

Rumor has it that the list of patents was stored on a Vista machine in
Redmond. Trouble is it crashed and no-one has been able to recover the
data...

hahaha...actually it's on our volume license copies and we're holding it
hostage until MS proves it's theirs...and pays us the big bucks of
course to get it back.

No, it's not convoluted thinking.

This is *ALLEGED* patent infringement. You said it yourself above....
*ALLEDGED*.

It's the right logic to me. I never said they were bluffing. I said they
never disclosed which patents are under scrutiny. For a company or an
individual to just go along with something like this 'because', would be
stupid. Yes, I used the word *stupid*....sue me.
Who's the wacko in charge of that deal?

Apparently not a spineless twit. RedHat refuses to play along too.

how they are infringed upon.
Yep!
That's the deal.

If MS wants this, *THEY* need to prove their case. You can't do that w/o
listing the patents.

So therefore, all of that would be REQUIRED to be disclosed before *ANY*
agreements of *ANY* type. Whatever agreement would be a contract between
them with exact details of what is covered under what and where.

Unless of course the MS patent team is the same team that write the
Windows EULA's.

Fedora core and windows have been doing so in my house for years.

command. They have my full support.

Correct. This is why we have MS to blame for malware hell:
