U.S. Robotics 100Mbit 802.11g PCMCIA Card +Problem

Hi all, I need to tap into some of your expertease if you
don't mind please as I am at the end of my teather now!

I recently purchased a U.S. Robotics 802.11g Wireless
Turbo PC Card (100Mbit) <--- not a typo

When I installed the drivers and rebooted I put in the
card and it was detected. The driver wizard poped up as
usual and I let it find te correct drivers and instal the
card. However at the end of the wizard it said Code 10
Device cannot start.

I tried everything to get it to work and ended up
reinstalling windows xp.

This got the card to work again with no problems...until
my laptop crashed (blue screen +reboot). Now the card says
Code 10 Device cannot start again.

And before anyone asks the card worked with the base
windows xp pro installed, and it continued to work whilst
I did all the windows updates and SP1. It also worked
after they had all installed.

The Laptop in question is a Compaq nx9005 running Windows
XP Pro.

Does anyone else have this card?
Does anyone else have this laptop?
Does anyone else have both?

Has anyone got any ideas that might help me resolve this
please.

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from someone soon.

I have the exact same laptop and wireless card.

I pursued US Robotics tech support at first, thinking I had got a DOA
card, but the replacement did not work either, so I turned my
attention to the NX9005. I found this massive thread on the HP
website:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=58718

It's full of people complaining about wireless cards not working with
this model of laptop, (mainly D-link but also our USR 54g) Despite
this, when I contacted HP, they denied any knowledge of problems, and
said they couldn't do anything because it's not a HP wireless card.

In the meantime, I realised that if I boot the laptop, then put it
into standby, then turn it on the card seems to work. Not particularly
slick, but it gets me online.

In the last week or so there's been a lot of activity at the HP board.
Allegedly there's a bios update on the way which should resolve the
problem. Some members on the board have got a hold of a beta version,
which seems to work, but I'm going to wait for an official update
before I upgrade. The final insult to this sorry affair would be a
buggy bios update killing my system

Hope this helps,

Alasdair
