Typing Symbols

Friends:

I am having Office 2003.

When I try to type Alt+0163, I don't get the Sterling symbol, or for that
matter, any other symbols.

Any helps?

I am using a notebook.

It seems that I MUST use the number pad to do the job. Somehow inconvenient
with notebook. Looks like I have to assign other keys mentioned in your
linked article.

Thanks, any way.

I assume that you have blue characters on your keyboard beside the usual
white ones. That's your number pad. Turn on NumLk, hold down both the Fn and
Alt keys, hit the keys with the blue numbers.
