typing cursor dissappears

while typing an entry (such as I am doing now), the cursor disappears, the
display dims, and I can no longer type. If I click on any part of the entry
box, I can type again and the display intensity returns to normal. Each time
I resume typing, I have about 20 seconds of typing time before this occurs.
The event will not "clear" by itself, if I just wait.

Goto control pannel mouse pointer options tab and disable hide pointer while
typing. HTH
