How do I find out the type of ram i have in my computer?
I know I've seen it before but I cant remember how I did
it....I'm running XP home..I think its DDR ram...does it
matter if I add a different kind of ram? and if it does
could I add ram as long as its ddr because I was looking
at some and theres like ddr and ddr sd somethin..

These programs are free and will report details of what is
actually installed (which could be different from the spec
sheet [all mfg'rs reserve the right to make changes])

Go to www.aida32.hu and download AIDA32, the Enterprise version. It is free,
and will tell you about your ram as well as a ton of other info.

Yes.. It makes a big difference. You want to add the same kind of ram
that you are currently using. This will vary depending on your
motherboard. You want to try and match your new ram as closely as
possible with your existing ram. This includes type, speed, everything...

The best way is to buy the exact same ram that you have. Same brand and
everything. I have seen some really flakey problems come up because of
mis-matched ram.

Yes it matters a lot. XP is very fussy about exact matching of RAM
modules.

get the free Aida 32, enterprise edition from

Its Motherboard - Chipset page will tell you about the Memory Slots, and
the type and size of RAM module in each and at the top in Chipset
Properties, some other important info which you should make sure RAM
modules match - CAS Latency
