Type Conversion Failure

I am using Access 2007 and am having an issue when I create a new ACCDB. I
need to pull data in with which I go to the External Data tab and select
Excel (also 2007). I--but receive a message : ..is not a valid name. Make
sure that it does not include invalid characters or punction and that it is
not too long".

I also tried when exporting the excel file into a text file. I go through
the wizard and click Finish and it says it is successful. But when I view the
table that was imported, I see "filename_importErrors: Table". Three columns
(Error, Field, Row).

It works fine in Access 2003..so what must I do to resolve the message?
In the excel file are sample Id's, dates, etc.

Make a copy of the Excel file in question. Make the file name really simple
with just a few letters and .xlsx suffix. Next open this file and make sure
the worksheet name and column headings are really short and simple with
nothing but a few letters and numbers and no special characters including
spaces. Make sure than no column heading has a duplicate name. Next make sure
that the first row or record has some representative data in it. In other
words, no empty cells in the first row under the column headings. You can
delete this record after the import.

Now try to import this new Excel file. If it does import, there is something
wrong with the file name, worksheet name, column headings, or some problems
with the first record in the original spreadsheet.
