.txt files suddenly attached to incoming mail - Why?

T

The Hun

Using OL2002 - Windows.

All of a sudden, incoming email from different sources and IPs has the
message in their email also contained in attached .txt files. They
have no idea how a .txt file attachment came to be created or attached
to their emails to me.

Does anyone know why, and what I can do about it?

Thanks,

Check the encoding type on the incoming message. Is it set to User Defined?

After opening an email, I did VIEW / ENCODING and saw that US-ASCII is
checked. There is no option for "User Defined." Can you give me more
detailed guidance?

Thanks.

On the received mail message, look at the internet message header. Was
hoping that you would see something like....

Content-Type: text/plain;
format=flowed;
charset="x-user-defined";
reply-type=original

Its the 'charset="x-user-defined"' that tends to drive Outlook nuts where it
dumps everything into the body and/or whatever plain text messages that come
after end up having text file attachments. When this happened to me using
OL2000, had to restart Outlook and then it would behave normally until the
next time.
