I have two computers (XP Pro and XP Home SP1[soon to be SP2]) connected
directly to my DSL router (2Wire 1000HW HomePortal), one via Ethernet and
one via USB. I also use a Mac Powerbook via wireless.
I have the PCs configured thru the Network Wizard to go directly to the
internet and not share (turned off ICF) because I don't want to have to have
one machine on if I want to surf with the other.
From machine A when I set up the network connection I can see Machine B, can
access the Shared Folder there, and get an IP addr from the router of
172.16.1.35. I can even open IE and go to a page or two, but after say,
thirty or sixty seconds, all of a sudden the Sys Tray router icon goes dark
and when I check the machine's IP address I get the 164.xxx one that means
Private IP Address. When I Disable and Enable the network connection it
gets a new DHCP addr for a little while then does it again. It is the same
from the other machine, too, so I don't think it's just the Pro version or
just the Home version...
My notebook does not have this problem - it signs in via AirPort and never
loses the connection, so I figure it's got to be between XP Pro and Home,
right?
Thx in advance for yr help
