i am trying to open and view 2 workbooks simultaneously.
no matter what i do the 2nd workbook overwrites the open
workbook. any suggestions?

To see a button for each workbook in the toolbar, choose Tools>Options
On the View tab, add a check mark to 'Windows in Taskbar'

Or, after you've opened the two workbooks, click on the Window menu
You should see both file names at the bottom of the menu.
The active workbook has a check mark to the left of its name
Click on the other workbook to activate it.

I don't believe it overwrite the first book. It's just displayed on top of it
on the screen. Go to the Window menu and select New Window or Arrange to see
the methods available to display both workbooks.
