Two Vista systems crossover network.

Hello everyone,
this is my second post on Google Groups, and I hope that this is the
right place for a question like this.
I've been having some problems with networking Vista machines. I can
set up wireless networks for internet connectivity, but am having
trouble with file share. Not worrying about the wireless file share, I
bought a crossover cable. I've searched all over the internet and have
read countless "how to" and "step by step" tutorials, all leaving me
frustrated because it seems that my settings are right.

In "Network and Sharing Center" I click on "Unidentified Network" and
the network screen shows the computer's name which I want to view. I
click on the icon with the name and get:

"Network Error
Windows cannot access \\COMPNAME
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem
with your network. Try to identify and resolve network problems, click
Diagnose."

I click diagnose and tested all that apply, but the problem was not
resolved.

I've set the network to private, network discovery is ON, file sharing
is ON, public folder sharing is ON, password protected sharing is OFF,
media sharing is ON.

I can get any additional info that would be needed for helping solve
this problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
