Two Network Cards on a XP Home PC

I have a computer with XP Home. It is connected to my work LAN. I had just
installed a Camera system that is on its own subnet. Can i add another NIC
to my PC and connect the Camera Lan to it? Do i need to configure something
if i do that besides the IP address? Will i still be able to connect to my
work LAN?

thanks

If you are on a network, and are using an IP camera, just plug into the
HUB/Switch, easiest way to install it!

First think the worst then find ways around it.

Rectification, I was not paying attention... Set the Camera to use the
existing subnet.

Hey man,

If you want the camera on one subnet and the work lan on another, so
ultimately you are physically keeping them separate then the best option is
to install a second netowrk card and configure one for the work lan and the
other for the ip camera.

Essentially this turns your machine into a router as it can speak to both
networks, so as long as you dont allow traffic to be routed from the work
network through you, you will be the only person who can see both sides and
thus use your ip camera quite happily

Im pretty sure you can do this with a minimum of effort without messing
up your work lan.

Or at any rate you can do it with XP Pro. Don't know how much they
crippled the home edition.

Yes, that is one way you can do it. Here is a tip though: Get a different NIC
(brand)then the one that is in your computer now.

Just make sure that the camera LAN interface has no default route and
that your work LAN interface retains its default route. As another
poster said, if you get two different brands of interface, you will be
able to tell them apart in the device manager.

Don't worry about default route until you install the new LAN card and
you can't get to the Internet (but can reach work and camera LANs). That
is a symptom of a bad default route.
