Two machines - One ISP Account

I have always used a desktop computer.
I now, also, have a laptop computer.
I know that for updates, for purchasing on-line, and for forums, etc., there
are some things that have to be kept separated. For instance, last year I
had two antivirus subscriptions from the same provider, one for each
machine, with passwords. Somewhere along the line, the provider had no way
to keep track of which computer the updates belonged to so all was
scrambled.

I plan to keep things separate by creating a sub-account for myself for the
laptop's access to my ISP with another name, another user ID and another
password. Do I do this from the desktop? or the laptop?

At the same time, I will be naming the laptop, hooking it into my desktop's
ISP account (?) and then it starts to get confusing. Is this where
identities come in when using email? I know how to create identities and I
know how to set up a sub account for the ISP, but doing it with two machines
is confusing.

Or do I set up this second identity as another user on my Windows User
Accounts first?

I need a simple way to do this to keep things separate, but both machine's
using the same ISP account. Who has a step-by-step instruction?

You'll confuse yourself and make life difficult. You dont have to keep
things seperate.
If the AV manu cannot identify the installation for subscriptions then the
software is at fault, allthough each installation may have its own
password/username etc
I have run 4 sys on a network all with AV and subscription apps which never
had a problem, and using a single email addy.
Your probably confusing any password/username between PC's - try D(esk)T****

Re email see below and learn how to sync between two PC's
