Two Identical Archive Folders

I ended up with two identical Archive Folders in my Outlook 2003 software.
They both pointed to the same archive.pst folder. I right clicked on one of
them and used the Close "Archive Folders" option. Well, one of the folders
disappered. Outlook appears to be fine now.

What happened to the folder?

Did I ask for a problem?

No, I did not use import. I manually moved my archive.pst folder from my D:
partion back to it's rightful place on the C: partition. I forgot to update
the file adress/location in all the right places in Outlook and ended up
recreating the archive file on the D: drive the first time auto archive ran.
Once I saw this I realized what I had done (or not done), so I carefully
remapped the original archive.pst file to C:. Then I opened up the unwanted
archive file using Outlook (there are now two archive folders, but one points
to the D: drive) and 'moved' all the e-mails back into Outlook ready for
archiving again. The plan was to then delete the unwanted archive file and
data. I figured that once I remapped the archive.pst file correctly these
older emails would 'find' the correct archive.pst file next time auto archive
ran. I visited every folder in Outlook and made sure the correct archive.pst
address was in place. I ran auto archive again and everything worked fine.
Then I logged out of Outlook and manually deleted the unwanted archive.pst
file on the D: drive. I have since tested auto archive, everything works
fine, however I ended up with a second archive file that was now mapped to
the C: drive. Both archive folders were pointing to the same file. I could
not find a way to delete the unwanted archive folder so I tried the Close
"Archive Folders" option when rigth clicking on the file. The folder
disappeared. Am I OK now?

So far so good., since you realized that PSTs have no "rightful" place, can
be anywhere you wish to place them, and that Outlook will create a new
archive PST if one doesn't already exist where the settings say they should
be.

Probably not. Archiving works on the modification date of an item, not on
the received date. My moving the items from one PST to another, you
modified them and now archive won't touch them until their modified dates
once again exceed the interval you've specified.

Rather, you should set each folder to use the default archive values so
there's no chance of carrying over an old value.

You should always close it in Outlook first to remove it from the mail
profile before deleting it from disk.

You should be.

Niether the archive pst or outlook.pst has a *rightfull* location, they have
a default location, but they can be located allmost anywhere on your hd that
you designate

You are both right. I'm just trying to get everything off of the D: partition
before I use partition magic to shrink or delete it. Office does have a
'typical' location under the username which I have already modified bacause
my Internet backup service only hits folders, not specific files.
