I use Trend Micro (7.100/1.939) anti-virus program. I also use Kerio
Personal Firewall. The "problem" - the Trend Micro anti-virus program
already has a firewall. Two of the same type program running at the
same time can be a prescription for disaster. Is it in this case?

Thank you,

You can have a situation where in running two host based FW(s) it will
prevent packets from reaching the computer. On the other hand, some
people run with two and can get away with it.

While others prefer a layered approach of having a cheap standalone NAT
router in front of the machine with a host based FW running on the
machine.

I don't know about two firewalls but be careful when using Trend
Micro.

I installed Trend Micro PC-cillin 2000 which came with my new
computer. For good measure or I was half asleep I also installed
McAfee antivirus 7.0. Well.................did I get into trouble.
Computer totally locked up with hour glass showing and I couldn't do a
thing. Ctrl-alt-del didn't work, re-booting kept getting me back up
but with hour glass still showing, couldn't use System
Recovery.............nothing. Got so desperate I had to get my
son-in-law in who is a technical consultant for a well-known company!

After considerable tweaking he managed to free it up.

We had to dispense with the anti-virus part of McAfee and just leave
the firewall and use the anti-virus part of Trend.

My Sygate v5.5 and Kerio 2.1.5 work fine together.
Sygate has no control over local host 127.0.0.1 and Kerio does.
My main firewall is Sygate. So if I want to securely run a proxy
such as Proxomitron, I just also turn on Kerio.
