Hello,

My Western Digital 40Gb external USB HDD developed an error while I was
creating a small NTFS partition using Partition Magic. The HDD cannot be seen
in ‘My Computer’ but can be detected in Computer Management and by PM. The
drive was originally M but now shows as:

Local Disk (M:) (*) with a full path (\\.\disk7.part1\)

In addition, four unknown removable storage devices (E, F, G and H) have
appeared in ‘My Computer’.

When I connect the HDD to my work PC, I can read the files and it can be
seen in ‘My Computer’ as:

Local Disk (M:) (E:)

I am running Win XP Pro SP2.

Any help much appreciated.

The better way of fixing this is to copy the files off the drive and
to completely remove all the partitions. The drive's partition table
is "buggy" now.
