TweakUI for WinXP

Some months back I installed TweakUI for XP. I played with it a bit, changed a few settings and
since then have pretty much left it alone. One of the settings I changed was the "recently
opened files" on the File menu in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. I "tweaked" it somehow so that the
recently opened files are not listed. Not on the menu bar File, and not on the Start button, and
I'd sort of like to get it back. At least, on the File. I don't really care if I get it back on
the Start button, but I guess maybe I'd like to at least know how to undo whatever it is that
I've done.

Also, this "tweak" did not affect non-Microsoft apps, such as Quicken.

If I delete TweakUI, will the settings that I've changed to back to the default?

I'll appreciate any info I can get. Thanks.

No, they would stay as they are now.

To make the docs show on the Start menu run TweakUI, the go to Explorer
and put a checkmark in "allow recent documents on the Start Menu".

To make recent docs show in Office products I think you'd need to open one
of those products, then go to Tools > Options > General and see if there
is an option to adjust there. AFAIK TweakUI doesn't affect their internal
menus.

In the past I have used TweakUI under 95 and found that any settings I
changed stayed the same after removeing TweakUI and then being unable
to do anything about them. [had to re-instal prog to make changes]

The setting you changed could be under ’Taskbar - XPStart Menu’ then
tick the box to program. You may also have unchecked box in common
dialogs for remembering file names.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately, that does not appear to be the case. I have a pretty clear recollection of being
asked if I wanted to display the most recently used filenames on the File dropdown menu, but I
can't remember anything else about the context of that question. [#@*&!]

You mentioned having used TweakUI under Win95. I've used it with Win98 and had no problem, but
TweakUI for WinXP is a different version entirely. It does some of the same things, but there
seems to be a considerable difference between the two. I think I'll check the "forumz" that
were included in your "signature." Maybe I'll find something/someone there that'll solve my
problem.

And if anyone else has any info, I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Thanks.
