TV Wonder VE tuner - no sound

T

OK, after installing/uninstalling, seating/reseating the card, and
more circles than I care to think about, I finally got the stinking TV
tuner recognized by XP-Home and all of the drivers are loaded with the
latest and greatest and I'm able to at least pull up the TV
application.

BUT, there is no sound. During the Wizard, I tried each audio choice
(line-in, CD, stereo, etc...) but none of them gave me any sound. I
used to use "line-in", as I have the line-out of the the TV card
plugged into my audio card's line-in. I verified the cable, and I do
have sound for windows, games, etc..., just not the TV app. I
searched the ATI and microsoft sites, but didn't really find any
article/fix specific to this issue. I found a few close, but was
hesitant to just start installing stuff w/o being sure it wasn't going
to do something that would set me back.

Thanks.

TV VE driver version 1-11-0-0
DAO mdac version 8-1-0-0
Running MMC version mmc-8-9-0-0
For my Radeon 9700 Pro, I have 6.14.10.6422 installed.

Try line out from audio card to line in audio of TV card.

I don't have a line in on the TV card, just an audio-out, comp-in(rca)
and of course the cable connector.

But, even if I did have that, not sure what that would accomplish
since I want to pull sound from the tv card to the system, not sound
from the system to the TV card.

Did you check to see if "line-in" is muted? Two ways:

(1) Right-click speaker icon on system tray
(2) Control Panel > Sounds & Multimedia

I assume that you are using the Coax cable as your input. If the audio
is not working, you may want to try reference drivers and see if they
work. You can find them at http://btwincap.sourceforge.net . In the
driver setup, you can specify that you are using the ATI TV Wonder VE
and for the Tuner manually set it to Philips NTSC (if you're in the
US). Also, you can try posting something to the forums at
www.vcdhelp.com . They're extremely active and you're bound to get a
quick response from a TV Wonder owner

I went into the control panel and the LINE-IN was muted. I unmuted
it, but it didn't help.

I then found a volume icon on the system tray (not a speaker,
interestingly) and it had the LINE-IN grayed out. I goofed around
with a bunch of things and figured out that theh LINE-IN was "missing"
because the it had the number of speakers on my system as 6 (surround
sound) and was treating the LINE-IN as an additional LINE-OUT. I've
never seen this before, but when I changed it to be 4 surround
speakers, i was able to "default" the jacks to be the correct thing
and the sound appeared.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It did help.
