TV Wonder Pro Woe

TV Wonder Pro - when it initializes, the audio is reset to MAX.
(Which causes audio distortion when recorded)
This occurs whether ATI Media center or Beyond TV accesses tuner.
One can manually adjust audio, but it is overridden whenever the card
is initialized.
Is there a solution to prevent the reset of audio to MAX?

TIA

Snoop around; maybe "properties" to adjust the reset value.
I have almost never found "help" files to be useful, but in this case
it may not hurt to waste time plodding thru many different wierd "names"
for that function.

JG: NADA. No entries or user definable variables that I can determine.

MMC saves it's settings when it closes. Probably it isn't closing properly
so the new levels don't get saved. Running the TV program, adjusting the
settings then immediately closing might work to get them reset if it's done
before the problem that keeps it from closing properly is encountered.
Repair install, uninstall and reinstall and cleaning the registry before
reinstall are possible fixes.

Possibly BT is reading the settings in the registry that TV uses.

It's also possible you're sound card drivers have become corrupted. Try
reinstalling them.

Good Luck.

[JG] MMC doesn't appear to be the culprit. The same problem occurs
with Snapstream Beyond TV. Whenever the tuner card is accessed, the
respective audio input is immediately reset to MAX.
ATI support doesn't respond to my inquiries.
The driver is the latest from ATI, too.

MMC gets it's setting from the registry. If they don't get saved when it
closes it picks up the same reading every time it opens. Probably BTV is
reading the same ATI key. Was it doing this before installing BTV?

JG: Yes.
The other possibility is driver corruption, TV Wonder or sound card. Just
because DM says they are OK does not mean they are. Try uninstalling them
and let Windows reinstall them.

JG: Tried a reload on both machines. No change. The sound is
integrated with MB.
When I installed the trial version of BTV last year it put a lot of hooks
into the system. If your problem started with installing it, check with
Snapstream. IIRC they have a forum.

JG: The audio volume reset was evident in three different machines,
using ATI MMC software. BTV exhibited the same bug.
What's the point of asking here if you aren't going to try what is
suggested? Don't expect a magic bullet.

JG: Who says I didn't try?

Ahhh...try an older driver, about 2-3 revs older.

JG: Couldn't find one on the ATI site.

Here's their "TECH" response to my problem :

ATI SAYS:
If the sound is maximizing in different applications it is a Windows
specific issue you are having.
With the TV Wonder Pro the sound is passed through the external
connection on the TV tuner to your audio device.
To control the sound open the Windows Volume control and adjust the
line in volume control.
There is no sound control on the TV tuner itself it just passes the
signal to the sound card for processing.

[] Update
I rolled back from Win XP SP3 to SP2.
Reinstalled the tuner card driver.
Reinstalled tuner in Beyond TV.
At the point where it tested audio, I adjusted the audio level slider
to a nominal level.
And that seems to have resolved the problem.

Not sure if it was SP3 but it appears to be the common element.
Will test hypothesis on another machine (Not running BTV).
