Turning off WORD numbering

Is it not obvious from the name of this forum that's it for Windows XP
questions. Try going to the Office forum for asking questions about Word.
Part of the problem is that people do not read instructions properly.

Hello. Does anyone know how to turn off WORD numbering. I find it a
great annoyance when WORD automatically numbers lines once one
introduces a number into a previous line. The Bullets and Numbering
command works but it has to be done everytime. Come to think of it, is
there any way to turn EVERYTHING off in Word other than a blank page
(including those green and red style/spelling underlines). I just find
them a nuissance, at least while I'm writing. I may wish to turn them
on right before I finish what I'm doing. It's good to have all these
options; but it's better to have the choice whether one wants them or
not and when. (Intuitively I feel there MUST be a way to do this, but
so far I have not found one. I've certainly tried. But, for example,
everytime I get rid of the numbers, as soon as I type one number again
the numbering starts in again! I want numbers, but my own, not WORD's.

Hello. Does anyone know how to turn off WORD numbering.

On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the
AutoFormat As You Type tab. Select or clear the options you want.

I suppose that you are one that goes to the doctor and gets advice about
your electrical problems or gets car repair advice from the grocer. All I
am trying to say is that they will get a better response from the proper
forum.

Thanks. As for the other gentleman, I am aware of such protocol, but
"XP"
can mean either ALL or SPECIFIC, depending on what other newsgroups are
out
there. I hesitated at first but since (at least in my news reader) I
didn't see anything related to WORD, I assumed this newsgroup would be
INCLUSIVE. Who knows if one can ask a quesion about, say, The Beatles
on a
Rock newsgroup or only GENERAL questions about Rock? I mean it's
different
going on an XP NG and asking a question about Hitachi air conditioners;
or
going on a Rock newsgroup and asking questions about horticulture.
Although I may have breached etiquette, I don't believe it was a serious
breach.
Anyway, thanks again for your reply. It will be very useful!
