Turning off Single click in Word 2000

My mouse is set to single clicking but i want to be able to double click.
I've checked the settings and can't see how to turn this off. I want to be
able to click into a TOC and then press F9 to update it, but of course it
always jumps to wherever you've clicked.
I've looked in both Word/Tools etc and the PC's settings.

try this instead....If you add, delete, move, or edit headings or other text
in a document, click Update TOC on the Outlining toolbar to update the table
of contents. For example, you should do this if you edit a heading or move it
to a different page.

To display the Outlining toolbar, right-click any toolbar, and then click
Outlining.

Try this:

Tools | Options | Edit tab

Be sure that "Use CTRL+Click to follow hyperlink" is checked.

That option came up in Word 2002, I believe. Don't think it is available in
Word 2000.

Instead, try right-clicking on the field and selecting Update Field.
