turn on the user login icons

My XP machine went from a network back to a workgroup.
How can I turn on the option which allows users to logon
by clicking on an icon instead of entering their name. I
am shocked I can't find an answer to this simple question
in Microsoft's Technet or Knowledge base. (at least under
my search terms)

Start-Control Panel-User Accounts-Change the way users log on or off and
check the "Use Welcome Screen" box
