"turn off" button missing from logon window

Hi,

A "turn off" button is supposed to be at the left lower corn of
"logon" screen after you boot your PC or logoff from one user, but it
is not there anymore on my win XP. This "turn off" button allows me to
turn off the PC directly instead of logon to an user, then select
"start" button to turn it off, what had happened?
Thx.

It's moved. Look at the very bottom left corner of the monitor.

It is not there and that is why I am asking the question. It was there
before, and I had seen it and used it for quite long time, then it
disappeared.

Hi wenmang

Click Start | Run and type: secpol.msc <OK>
Expand Local Policies and click on Security Options.
In the right-hand pane, look for the entry: "Shutdown: Allow system to
be shut down without having to log on" and Enable it.

Hope this helps :)

secpol.msc is not available on my win XP. Can I go through
regedit.exe?

secpol.msc does not exist on Windows XP Home.

These two items do not come with XP Home edition:
gpedit.msc = Group Policy
secpol.msc = Local Security Settings

The Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down command Policy or NoClose set
to 1 in the registry disables Shut Down in Task Manager, Start menu and
Windows Security dialog.

On the Task Manager Menu Bar, there are: File, Options, View, Shut Down and
Help.

The Shut Down menu contains:
* Stand By
* Hibernate
* Turn Off
* Restart
* Log Off (User Name)
* Switch User

Some of the above items may be unavailable (grayed out) depending on Group
Policies, et cetera.

For example.

NoClose removes access to Stand By, Hibernate, Turn Off, Restart and Log
Off (User Name) from the Shut Down menu in Task Manager, but leaves the
menu.

If using Classic Logon the Task Manager will not show the Shut Down menu.

To verify what type of Logon you are using, go to the Control Panel | User
Accounts | Change the way users log on or off. If the Welcome Screen is not
checked then you are using the Classic Logon, there for no Shut down menu
will not be present for the Task Manager.

I have no idea if any of the above changes if on a domain.

Turn the Welcome screen on...
1. In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
2. Click Change the way users log on or off.
3. Click the Use the Welcome screen to place a check mark in the check box.
4. Click OK.

Thanks for the info. Check both registries, there is no NoClose exist,
and I manually add it as DWORD to both places and set them to 0, but
it doesn't help, still "turn off" button not showing.
