Turn off reading layout when opening attachments

K

Kerry

I'm trying to find out how to change a setting in word. I want to stop
attachments from automatically opening in reading layout. I found the below
instructions, but I don't know what the Office button is or where to find it.

Does anyone know where this mysterious button is, or another way to change
this?

1. Click the Office button
2. Select Word Options
3. Click Popular in the left column
4. Deselect "Open e-mail attachments in Full Screen Reading View"

Any help would be apprciated,

Kerry.

If you are not using 2007, you won't see an Office Button. If using Word
2003, go to tools, options, then the general tab and unclick Allow Starting
in Reading Layout

Hi PJY,

Thnks you for responding. I have already checked that box. It seems to be
a setting in outlook, because even with that not checked when I open an
attachment, it opens in reading view.

I looked through all the options in word and outlook and can't find anything
to turn it off.

That box should be UNCHECKED

it is unchecked, but when I receive an attachment and open from outlook it
always opens in reading. Even with the box unchecked. I think it might be a
setting or something in outlook, but I can't see any where to change it. I
also read some where that it may be a result of an add-in or script that was
run. Which makes sense given the environment I'm in. I guess it might just be
something I'll have to put with.

Thanks for all your help:)

Or you could save the document to the HD before opening it. Reading Layout
is used only for viewing attachments directly.

perfect, thank you Suzanne:) I'll advise to do that. I knew it had something
to do with attachments. Thanks again, and thanks again to you PJY
