Reading layout in Word 2003

G

Guest

I have disabled reading layout via the options in Word.

However, when I open a file by double-clicking an attachment in Outlook
2003, the Word file will open in reading layout.

Any suggestions?

G'Day Doug,

I am unable to reproduce the problem.

When you open a Word e-mail attachment, it will normally open
in Reading Layout.

Disabling Reading layout in Tools>Options stops this from happening.

That's the theory 'n it works for me!

It is never a good plan to open Word documents directly from e-mail -
especially if you intend to edit them. Save to the hard drive first.

The issue is not whether or not it is advisable to open word documents from
email but how to turn off the feature. I find the feature a real annoyance
and wish someone would devise a method to disable this feature. I open all my
word attachments via emails and not necessarily to edit them but to read
them. Why would I save an attachment to my hard drive when it is already
saved in a pst file?

If your settings are not being saved, either your Registry key is damaged
(see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm) or, if you're
on a network, some sort of login script is resetting settings to a corporate
default.
