Turn Off Multiple Cell Selection

I have a spreadsheet that, somehow, one cell stays
highlighted and if I click on any other cell, it selects
every cell between the first one and the cell I click on.
I don't know how to turn it off. I did undo, closed and
reopened the file, cleared and deleted the cell, row,
column. It won't stop. Please help!!

try hitting F8 (toggling the extended mode)

I tried that, it then says ADD in the bottom right and
lets me select a cell, but then the next cell I click it
selects everything in between.
