I do not use the Tabs in Messenger and and have the feature disabled in
Security. One of the Tabs is for the National Lottery and even with the Tabs
disabled, my company's firewall, Active Net Steward, keeps flashing up
warning alerts that the National Lottery site a banned site.

Is there any way Messenger can be disabled from sending/recieving background
messages? Or can the Tab for the Lottery be permanently deleted?

Please help

The easiest method might be - as you seem security savy - to disable the
prompts from your firewall. By now you likely know its functions and have it
working well enough. Most firewalls have a "block most" mode that you can
use after you've configured it to suit your needs. Shutting down the prompts
after that makes for a cleaner environment.

You might find that GAIM (never used it) doesn't have ads or just using
Windows Messenger is ad-free IIRC. (It's been a LONG time and I basically
just use the beta these days.)
