Turn off Hyperthreading?

Running a P4, 3.2, i875p chipset on an Asus Deluxe board.

I believe this chip has 512 cache (it is not the Extreme, nor is it the
Prescott).

I've read that turning off HT on this kind of system actually acts to
boost the speed of the system, even if you do a fair amount of multi-
tasking.

Is this true? Have people tried this and what has been your experience?

TIA
