Turn off hyperlinks in Microsoft Word

I want WORD to quit creating hyperlinks when I paste text into a document
that contains an email address or website.

At TOOLS/AUTOCORRECT OPTIONS/AutoFormat As You Type and AutoFormat/REPLACE:
I have already UNchecked "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" but
the problem persists.

Hi Glenda

There are two different things going on here.

The setting at AutoFormat As You Type controls whether Word *creates*
hyperlinks when you type something that smells like an internet or network
path.

When you copy and paste text including a hyperlink, the hyperlink has
already been created. So the AutoFormat As You Type setting is not relevant.
If you do Edit > Paste Special and choose Unformatted text, you will paste
just the text, with no formatting, no tables, no pictures, and no
hyperlinks.

Hi dear Shauna:

Thanks for responding, & so quickly! The first time I clicked Edit, the
Paste Special selection was grayed out. Then I realized I had to "Copy"
text containing an email address or web site before successfully completing a
"Paste Special."
It seems the Hyperlink feature does not turn OFF, but one must use Edit>
Paste Special each time.

As Shauna explained, the settings govern only what happens when you type
Internet or network paths (AutoFormat As You Type) or use AutoFormat to
format already-typed text, but when you paste in a hyperlink that is already
active, these settings don't apply.
