How suppress {HYPERLINK etc. in Word 2007 display?

When I type an email address such a (e-mail address removed), it displays as {HYPERLINK
"mailto:[email protected]"}. How can I make it display normally, i.e., without all
that field code like stuff? Worse, it doesn't seem to function as a
hyperlink -- clicking on it, or CTRL+clicking on it, does nothing.

The AutoFormat option "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" is ON
(selected), but it doesn't appear to matter.

Press Alt+F9 to toggle the display from field codes (which is what you're
seeing) to field results.
