How do I RESTORE previous underlining of hyperlinks to internet UR

L

Lew Yedwab

My Word 2007 document USED TO automatically underline links that it
recognized.

The first unwanted change was loss of the familiar underlining. At this
point, links STILL DID work. Upon mouse-hover, Word would offer to follow the
link via Control+click.

The most recent change was loss of the document recognizing hyperlinks to
URLs at all.

Links within document to Bookmarks, etc., do still work, thank God.

By now, I have no doubt that I unwittingly changed something, but cannot
find out how to restore this function. This despite having found this in the
Help:

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options.
Click Proofing.
Click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
Clear the Internet and network paths with hyperlinks check box.

Obviously, this SHOULD work, but alas, does not.

Thanks for any help that may be forthcoming.

Instead of the URL being recognized with the standard blue text with
underlines, are you seeing the HTML format of {} around your webite address?

If so, all you need to do is click Alt-F9 at the same time. That will
restore it to its regular display.

This must be a change to Office 2007, because there are a lot of people
experiencing this problem lately.

Hi, and great forum name, by the way:

ALT+F9 did toggle all the fields between that unprintable code and real
meaningful-to-humans information, but did not affect the URLs.

Thanks for the reply, though!

Go to Office button > Word Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat
As You Type and check the box for "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks".
That will take care of converting any new addresses as you type them.

To convert addresses that are already in documents, check the same box on the
separate AutoFormat tab of the same dialog, and uncheck everything else to avoid
unwanted changes. After OKing the dialog, click Office button > Word Options >
Customize, choose the All Commands category, and add the AutoFormat Now command
to the Quick Access Toolbar. Click that button to apply the hyperlinks. (When
you're done updating existing documents, you can right-click the toolbar button
and choose to remove it.)
