Tunnel Adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface

T

TJC

When I do an IPCONFIG /ALL on my desktop with XP Home
Edition, I see its correct IP and Gateway addresses which
are generated by my LinkSys (Firewall) Router. However,
it also lists a "Tunnel Adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-
Interface" which WAS NOT listed in the past, and appears
to be something very ominous.

What is this Pseudo-Interface? How did it get into my
system? And, how do I remove it if it is not required? Is
it some kind of back-door into my system from some
hacker?

PLEASE HELP. TNX.

It is part of the advanced network pack which installs IPv6. Teredo is an
IPv6 interface.

I noticed Teredo on my machine and it has stopped my pptp
vpn client from working (it connects ok, but I can not
pass any traffic). Is there a setting that will correct
this or do I have to do an uninstall?

Thanks

This appears to be a device for IPv6 interpretation of some sort. It will most probably not be required and if your internet is working fine or at worst ~ very slow, then simply disable it. [ Right click on device and select "Disable" ].

Another spot to find and control this is within your internet connection properties where you will find a list of installed components among them "IPv6" ~ simply uncheck the check box next to it.

If you find that you have no need for it at all ( quite possible ) then uninstall from the device listing ~ though possible future updates may well re-activate it ~ so I'm staying with the simple "Disabled" look for now.
