Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface - What is it

G

Guest

I have WinXP and cannot access the Internet any longer from my home. Have new
cable box.

When I do an IPconfig I get some crazy thing about
Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface and some weird ipaddress. I know my
Internet connection is ok because my laptop will access the Internet fine.

If I take my computer to my friend's house and connect to his cable (exact
same company and modem) I get on no problem and the Teredo Tunneling
Pseudo-Interface is not there when I do the ipconfig.

How can that be? It is the same computer, same cable company, 1 mile apart,
same modem but in my house this crazy Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface comes
up in his house it works perfectly.

Help needed desperately.
Thanks

Greetings Dig,

It appears that you've installed IPv6. It is included with SP2 or part
Networking Advanced Pack with XP SP1. To remove IPv6, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network
Connections.
2. Right-click the Local Area Connection, then choose Properties.
3. Uncheck the "Microsoft TCP/IP version 6" checkbox.
4. Click Ok.

The reply above answers your question about the weird IP address
However that is probably not the reason why you can't access the internet.

Are you seeing another IP address, other than the weird one, with the bunch
of HEX characters?

If so, you may have a static ip address set, and thus you cannot receive the
dynamic address, sent by the cable company DHCP server
You would have to navigate to
start > control panel > Network connections (using classic view in control
panel)
Right click your network adapter
scroll down to Internet protocol (TCP/IP) (you may also see an IPv6
Protocol, ignore it for now)
Highlight TCP/IP
click on the properties button
then click the radio button that says obtain IP address automatically
this may solve your problem
